UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Oct. 24, 2014 - Led by its upperclassmen, the No. 7 Penn State women's soccer team bested Nebraska, 3-1, on Friday night.

Seniors Emily Hurd (Sammamish, Washington) and Kori Chapic (Russell, Ohio) each had a pair of assists, while classmate Whitney Church (Ashburn, Virginia) assisted on the eventual game winner. Junior Mallory Weber (Novi, Michigan) scored the Nittany Lions' first goal of the match.

Penn State (15-2, 10-1 Big Ten) got on the board just under four minutes into the match. Chapic sent a long ball from midfield to Hurd 18 yards out. Hurd then fed a cross to Weber in the box who tapped it in for the 1-0 score.

The Nittany Lions' leading scorer Frannie Crouse (Greensburg, Pennsylvania) doubled the team's lead in the 39th minute. Kindrah Kohne (Homer, New York) took a corner and in the crowded box, Church headed the ball directly to Crouse at the top of the box. Crouse then sliced the ball in for her eighth of the season and the 2-0 lead.

Nebraska (7-7-2, 3-5-2 Big Ten) responded just over a minute later with a goal by Mayme Conroy to make the score 2-1 going into halftime.

But Haleigh Echard's (Lebanon, Pennsylvania) first collegiate goal with 26 seconds left in full time secured the win for the Blue and White. Husker goalkeeper Kelly Schatz was playing high as Chapic in midfield sent a cross to Hurd, streaking up the flank. Schatz came out to pressure Hurd, but the redshirt senior dished the ball to Echard running through the middle. Echard dribbled the ball a few yards then knocked it in to the empty net for the final 3-1 score.

Britt Eckerstrom's (Germantown, Maryland) record moved to 15-2-0 in the win.
