UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- - The Nittany Lion men's hocket team dominated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 7-1, in front of 5,988 fans Sunday afternoon at Pegula Ice Arena. Scott Conway (Basingstoke, England) notched four points, including his first career goal, while Ricky DeRosa (Aston, Pa.) had three assists

"I don't think he sets out to play an aggravator type of game," head coach Guy Gadowsky said of Conway's play. "He seems to do that very well. I think that actually motivates him, he gets into it and he had a tremendous night not only in numbers but the way that he played. I thought the power-play goal that he had and (Curtis) Loik's goal were great."

Penn State (3-1-2) swept its first series at Pegula Ice Arena, out-scoring Holy Cross (1-4-1), 10-2, for the weekend, scoring five goals in the final period. Eleven different Nittany Lions registered a point in the rout.

Following a scoreless first period where Penn State out-shot Holy Cross, 15-5, the Nittany Lions had to kill off a 5-on-3 power play as the Crusaders took the first seven shots of the second. PSU's momentum from that penalty kill finally paid off with 5:01 left.

Casey Bailey (Anchorage, Alaska) scored his fourth of the year on a beautiful Taylor Holstrom (Yorba Linda, Calif.) feed from the left wing into the slot for a 1-0 lead. Just 2:15 later, Conway slid a pass on the power-play to Curtis Loik (North Vancouver, British Columbia) who one-timed it by Matt Ginn (34 saves, six goals against) to double the score. Erik Autio (Espoo, Finland) collected his first collegiate point on an assist.

Penn State added to the lead when Eric Scheid (Blaine, Minn.) was the beneficiary of a Conway pass on a 2-on-1 to make it 3-0 just 3:33 into the third. The goal was Scheid's fourth of the year, while Conway collected assist No. 3 on the season and Dylan Richard (Sherwood Park, Alberta) earned a point.

The lead grew to four only 1:22 later when Glen took Loik's feed and deposited into the back of the net for his second tally of the season. Luke Juha (Mississauga, Ontario) sent a long pass to Loik down the left wing to set pu the play.

Holy Cross stabbed back with a Jake Bolton shot that was screened out front 7:01 into the period to make it 4-1 Penn State. The Lions would retaliate with three goals in the final 6:45 for the final 7-1 score line.

Conway took a Scheid outlet pass and skated at a Holy Cross defensemen entering the zone, sliding the puck to the left, skating right and beating Ginn top shelf with 6:45 to go for his first collegiate goal and a 5-1 lead.

PSU made it 6-1 when team favorite Jacob Friedman (West Bloomfield, Mich.) put away a DeRosa shot that was saved by Ginn with 4:13 remaining. Friedman stripped a Holy Cross defenseman in his own zone and passed to DeRosa. The goal was Friedman's first against an NCAA Division I team. The goal forced Ginn from the game as Paul Berrafato (three saves) played the final four minutes of the game.

Conway would supply the final blow to the Crusaders on the power play, taking a combination play from Loik and DeRosa with 1:37 left, giving Penn State its second seven-goal game in as many home stands (7-1 vs. UConn on Oct. 11). Penn State went 2-for-7 on the power play after going 1-for-9 on Friday night.

The Nittany Lions scored five goals in a period for the second time this year (also the UConn game, Oct. 11) and have tallied multiple goals in every game this season.

Matthew Skoff (McKees Rocks, Pa.) was named the game's second star for stopping 28 of 29 Holy Cross shots. Skoff allowed just two goals in nearly 120 minutes of play and has started every game for the Nittany Lions.

Three Nittany Lions -- Connor Varley (Lansdale, Pa.), Patrick Koudys (Smithville, Ontario) and Conway -- earned a plus-three rating on Sunday afternoon. Varley blocked a game-high four shots, while Koudys had three blocks.

NEXT TIME OUT
Penn State hosts Atlantic Hockey Association squad Bentley for a two-game home series starting Thursday at Pegula Ice Arena (7 p.m.). The series concludes Friday at 7 p.m., the final home game of the semester for the Nittany Lions.
