Oct. 28, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host a presentation and discussion following the release of a video in support of the You Can Play project. Click here to view the video. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 6:30pm at Schwab Auditorium.

You Can Play is a nonprofit organization that works to help guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete; judged by other athletes and fans only by what they contribute to their sport and their teams success.

Wade Davis, Executive Director of the You Can Play project, will be on hand to discuss the organization. Davis played for the Tennessee Titans, the Washington Redskins, and the Seattle Seahawks, as well as two teams within the NFL Europe league. Davis is one of a small number of openly gay men to have played professional sports. In his present role as Executive Director, Davis works to develop curriculum, programming, training, and conversations that are focused on inclusion and diversity.

Joining Davis during the evening's presentation and discussion will be Athletic Director Sandy Barbour, Women's Volleyball Coach Russ Rose, Women's Golf Coach Denise St. Pierre, Athletics Integrity Officer Julie Del Giorno, and Track and Field Student Athlete Tal Jean Ben-Artzi. The group will discuss how the Athletic Department is embracing diversity and inclusion and its involvement with the You Can Play project.

Doors to Schwab Auditorium will open at 6pm and the presentation will begin at 6:30pm. Free general admission at the door. Questions from the audience are encouraged and will be addressed at the conclusion of the presentation. Tweet your questions by using the hashtag #PSUYCP.

This event is sponsored by the Athletics Council for Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of the Vice Provost for Educational Equity, the LGBTA Student Resource Center, the Penn State Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equity, and the Penn State All-Sports Museum.
