UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State men's hockey team faced its largest deficit of the season, 4-0, on Friday night and fought back with four straight goals to force overtime behind a Casey Bailey (Anchorage, Alaska) hat trick. Nevertheless, Ohio State's Anthony Greco scored the game-winner with 46 seconds left to hand the Nittany Lions a 5-4 loss in front of 5,892 fans at Pegula Ice Arena.

"It was really nice to see a great crowd. I'm sorry that we lost," said head coach Guy Gadowsky. "It was unfortunate that the game ended on a controversial play, but the refs didn't lose the game for us. In my mind, we lost the game in the second period when we were complacent."

Down four goals for the first time in 2014-15, Penn State (9-7-2,3-2-0-0 Big Ten) roared back with a pair of goals by Bailey, his 12th and 13th of the season, in 69 seconds to cut the deficit in half with 11:54 to play. Bailey's goals forced Ohio State to take its time out to try and stem the tide.

Six minutes later, Bailey's line mate, David Goodwin (Des Peres, Mo.) finished a beautiful passing sequence from defensive pairing Luke Juha (Mississauga, Ontario) and Erik Autio (Espoo, Finland) to further cut the lead as PSU trailed 4-3 with 5:53 to go.

Gadowsky pulled backup goalie PJ Musico (Orange, Calif.) for an extra attacker and it paid off as Bailey completed the hat trick as Eric Scheid (Blaine, Minn.) scooped a puck in the right corner, slid it off Goodwin as it found Bailey on the left dot to beat Christian Frey (53 saves) to set Pegula Ice Arena into delirium with 22 ticks on the clock. Scheid made his first appearance on the ice since Nov. 21 at Michigan.

Bailey moved into a tie for the nation's lead with 14 goals. His total this season matches his freshman campaign. Bailey leads the team in points with 22, already besting last year's leader (Scheid, 20).

Penn State dominated Ohio State (7-9-2, 2-2-0-0 Big Ten) in shots on goal, 57-35, including 6-1 through the first four minutes before the fateful Greco goal.

Connor Varley (Lansdale, Pa.) fired a puck that was deflected wide into the left corner and picked out by OSU. Autio attempted to collect the puck in the neutral zone but looked to be hooked by OSU's Tanner Fritz, losing possession to Greco who skated in one-on-one with Musico, going top shelf for the game-winner.

Penn State looked strong to open the game, out-shooting Ohio State 18-8 in the opening 20 minutes. The second period begun to swing Ohio State's way as the Buckeye's Luke Stork and Christian Lampasso cashed in on odd-man rushes with 3:57 and 48 seconds remaining for a 2-0 lead entering the second intermission.

Stork made it 3-0 just a minute into action as starter Matthew Skoff (McKees Rocks, Pa.) was pulled. Nick Schilkey pushed the lead to four less than two minutes later as it seemed Ohio State would cruise to victory.

Both teams were scoreless on their lone power-play chances and Penn State held a 43-31 margin in faceoffs led by David Glen (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta) who went 13-4.
