COLLEGE STATION, Texas -
For the second time this season, the Penn State softball team smacked two home runs in one game, this time it was off the bats of Kristina Brackpool (Valenica, Calif.) and Macy Jones (Ashburn, Va.) to help propel the Nittany Lions to a 6-1 win over Missouri State in the first game of a day night doubleheader on day two of the Aggie Classic.

Brackpool's bomb came in the first and was of the two-run variety, while Jones' stroked hers in the fourth to put the contest out of reach. It was Jones first of season and also was a two-run shot as the Lions put up a half dozen on the scoreboard for the third time this season.

Penn State wasted no time on Saturday plating its first run on a Lexi Knief (Ramsey, N.J.) RBI double, setting the stage for Brackpool's team leading third home run of the season.

Brackpool then knocked in her team's fourth run on an RBI single to right in the third, before Jones sent her homer sailing beyond the right field fence the very next inning.

The duo combined for five of PSU's six runs in the first game.

For the second straight day, sophomore pitcher Marlaina Laubach (Northampton, Pa.) used clutch pitching to work out of a no out bases full or almost full jam. Laubach entered the contest in the sixth with two on after starter Jessica Cummings (Owing, Md.) surrendered a hit and gave up a walk to start the inning.

Laubach promptly got to work, getting the Bears' battery to hit into a fielder's choice before chasing her offering for a called third strike for the second out. She routinely fielded a grounder back to the circle and tossed to first to get out of the inning unscathed.

Missouri State scored its one and only run on a fielder's choice in the fourth, but otherwise Cummings was solid in her first collegiate win, going five plus and surrendering four hits and just one run, while walking three and striking out three.

She moves to 1-2 on the year as Penn State improves its record to 5-3 and will take on No. 22 Texas A&M tonight at 6:15 p.m. The game will again be televised live on the SEC Network.
