2015 Tewaaraton Award Watch List

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

S enior Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) and junior Madison Cyr (Westminster, Md.) were named as two of 50 women's lacrosse players to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Thursday night. The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, honors the best men's and women's collegiate lacrosse player.

McCormick is a member of the watch list for the third consecutive season. Already the third-leading assister in Penn State history, McCormick has totaled 205 career points (105 goals, 100 assists). McCormick is 16 helpers away from the all-time Penn State record.

Currently, McCormick is tied for the team lead with 11 points on five goals and six assists. The Nittany Lions are off to a 3-0 start, averaging 16 goals per game.

Cyr, an IWLCA All-America selection a year ago, entered the 2015 season with 59 goals in two seasons at Penn State. Last year, Cyr was the team's leader in goals with 41. So far this season, the sophomore midfielder has three goals through three games.

This is the fifth straight season the Nittany Lions have had a representative on the preseason watch list. Potential additions to the watch list will be announced March 19 and April 9 before the first cutdown to 25 players on April 23.

Those 25 nominees will be whittled down to five men's and women's finalists as announced on May 7. Finalists will be invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C. on May 25 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum to the American Indian.

The ninth-ranked Nittany Lions welcome No. 8 Virginia to Holuba Hall on Saturday for a 3 p.m. opening draw.
