Franklin to Throw Out the First Pitch at Yankee Stadium Tuesday

April 23, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State head football coach James Franklin will be throwing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, April 28 as the Yankees face the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:05 p.m. Franklin will represent Penn State as the Yankees celebrate the 2014 New Era Pinstripe Bowl Champions.

"It's such an awesome opportunity to throw out the first pitch and take in a Yankees game at such an iconic stadium," Franklin said. "The Yankees' staff was great to work with and hosted a first-class event in the Pinstripe Bowl. The experience our student-athletes, coaches and staff had at Yankee Stadium in December was second to none. I am looking forward to taking the mound, maybe I will try to get some pitching advice from Masahiro Tanaka or Michael Pineda."

As part of Franklin's appearance, the Yankees are offering a special Penn State ticket deal. Fans can purchase tickets for up to 50 percent off using the promo code PSU15 with Field Level seats starting at $40 and Main Level seats starting at $27.50. Fans can access the promotion by visiting www.yankees.com/psu15.

The Nittany Lions claimed the 2014 New Era Pinstripe Bowl title with a come-from-behind 31-30 overtime victory over Boston College. Sam Ficken was true from 45 yards out with 20 seconds left to force overtime and Christian Hackenberg found Kyle Carter for the touchdown catch in the first extra period to even the score at 30. Ficken secured the win for the Nittany Lions with the extra point. Hackenberg broke or tied nine Penn State Bowl passing records with his 34-for-50 effort for 371 yards and four touchdowns.
