UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 50 Penn State men's tennis team finishes their home slate this weekend as they host three teams, including two Big Ten opponents. The Nittany Lions welcome Purdue for a 4 p.m. match on Friday. On Sunday, they host No. 41 Indiana at Noon and Monmouth at 5 p.m. Penn State is 11-13 overall and 2-5 in the Big Ten entering this weekend.
The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Jeff Zinn and Assistant Coach Paul Tobin, will honor senior Michael Reilly (Raleigh, N.C.) on Sunday against the Hoosiers. Reilly played his final two seasons at Penn State after transferring from UNC Wilmington. Reilly enters this weekend with 64 career doubles wins.
The blue and white went 2-1 this past weekend with 7-0 shutout wins against Wisconsin and NJIT and a 4-0 loss to No. 29 Minnesota.
In doubles, Reilly and junior Matt Barry (Lido Beach, N.Y.) won all three of their matches this weekend, while sophomores Alex Fennell (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) and Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y.) earned two wins, including an 8-7(4) victory against Wisconsin's 39th-ranked Jose Carranza and Josef Dodridge.
Barry, senior Tomas Hanzlik (Prague, Czech Republic), Laaribi and junior Roman Trkulja (Toronto, Canada) each picked up two singles wins. Fennell, sophomores Marc Collado (Barcelona, Spain), Nika Dolidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Stakhovsky each claimed a victory.
The junior, Barry, leads the team with 12 wins this spring, while Hanzlik has 11, Fennell has nine and Stakhovsky, ranked 111th in the ITA Poll, has seven.
The Boilermakers are 4-14 this spring and 0-6 in conference play. Last weekend, they fell 4-1 to No. 68 Iowa and 4-3 to No. 73 Nebraska.
Diego Acosta, Arthur Dobradin and Ricky Medinilla each have eight singles wins this spring. Acosta has played mostly at No. 1. Acosta and Medinilla are 8-4 at the top doubles spot.
The Hoosiers are 14-8 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten. Indiana defeated Nebraska, 6-1, and Iowa, 4-1, last weekend.
Sam Monette has nine wins this spring at the top singles spot. Daniel Bednarczyk is 10-6 in dual matches, playing mostly at No. 2. Bednarczyk and Monette is 11-10 this spring at the top doubles position.
Monmouth is 9-7 this spring and 2-0 in the Metro Atlantic Conference. They defeated Niagara, 5-2, this past weekend.
Victor Pugliese is 6-3 this spring, playing mostly at No. 1. Przemyslaw Filipek and Ale Gomez Estrada have eight wins, while Bee Kumthonkittikul and Vidit Vaghela have seven wins each.
Filipek and Pugliese are 5-4 in dual matches at the top doubles position, while Gomez Estrada and Ramy Bekhiet are 7-2 this spring.
