Bervinchak-Love to Be Inducted Into Susquehanna Valley Hall of Fame

LANCASTER, Pa. - Penn State associate head field hockey coach Lisa Bervinchak-Love will be formally inducted into the Susquehanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Saturday at the Four Seasons Golf and Banquet facility in Lancaster.

Bervinchak-Love has been on the Nittany Lion sidelines for 20 seasons as a coach after helping lead the Lions as a player for three seasons. Love was also a four-sport athlete at Penn Manor High School and earned all-star honors in field hockey and basketball, and was the district champion in the triple jump.

The Susquehanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1976, and with the induction of Bervinchak-Love and five other honorees, has enshrined 256 athletes.

As a coach Penn State, Bervinchak-Love has assisted on several highly successful teams, including a pair of teams that reached the NCAA National Championship game in 2002 and 2007, a 2005 team that won 17-straight games and each of Penn State's six Big Ten Tournament Champion teams. Bervinchak-Love has been on the sideline for a total of 15 NCAA Tournament appearances by the Nittany Lions and for six Big Ten regular season championships (1997, 1998, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013).

As a player, Bervinchak-Love scored 28 goals in her career. She was also a vocal leader as an All-American captain. As a senior co-captain, she led the team in scoring with 12 goals and three assists and was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team. She scored two of the Lions' goals at the 1988 Atlantic 10 Conference semifinals and was an All-Tournament selection. Following her graduation in 1989, Love continued to play field hockey at the national level. In 1991, she helped her team win a silver medal at the Olympic Sports Festival in Los Angeles.
