UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Director and head coach of Penn State cross country and track & field John Gondak and the Nittany Lion coaching staff have announced the addition of 36 student-athletes to the 2015-16 roster.
The Nittany Lion men's team is coming off an outstanding 2014-15 season as they finished in the top-five at all three Big Ten conference championships, finished 12th at the NCAA Indoor Championships and they posted the highest finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in almost 50 years (T-10th).
The Nittany Lion women head into the 2015-16 year featuring the 2015 Big Ten Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year (Elizabeth Chikotas) and five-time All-American Kiah Seymour, who redshirted this past outdoor season.
During the 2014-15 season, the Nittany Lion women finished fifth at the Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Regional and they posted their 13th-straight top-five finish at the 2015 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships (T-3rd).
"Once again our staff here at Penn State has put together an outstanding freshman class of Nittany Lions," Gondak said. "As you can see from the range of high quality athletes covering many different events, we continue to work toward being a nationally competitive, broad based cross country/track & field program. With the recruits we have joining the program along with a very talented group of returning student-athletes, Penn State will continue to field competitive teams in the fall during cross country and during the winter and spring track seasons."
The incoming class features 22 student-athletes from Pennsylvania, five from New Jersey, three from New York, and one from Australia, Bahamas, Illinois, Maine, Maryland and Ohio.
