UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's cross country team checked in at No. 17 in the latest NCAA Division I Cross Country National Coaches Poll, as announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"It is great to see our men's and women's team still being recognized in the Coach's Poll," said head coach John Gondak.

"This upcoming weekend starts the part of the season where you can earn points to qualify for the NCAA meet, so we will start to see teams run their full line-ups giving us a better chance to see where things stand. We are excited to get to Louisville on Oct 3rd and run our full line-up as well!"

The Nittany Lions have been idle following their fourth-consecutive Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational title dating back to 2012.

The women, led by a first-place finish from week one USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week Tori Gerlach (Perkasie, Pa.), tallied score of 21 claiming victories over then-No. 17 Syracuse (34), and then-No. 11 West Virginia (89) during the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 11.

At the regional level, both the men's and women's cross country teams remained the No. 3 and No. 2 teams in the Mid-Atlantic region, respectively.

The Nittany Lions do not compete again until Oct. 3 when they travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Greater Louisville Classic. The Greater Louisville Classic will be the first meet that will count towards NCAA Championship points, and also serve as a beneficial course preview for the NCAA Championships hosted by Louisville Nov. 21.
