JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - Led by two top-five individual finishes, the 20th-ranked Penn State men's golf team captured first place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough. Chris Houston finished tied for second overall in his first tournament of the year, while JD Dornes was tied for fourth after an impressive comeback.
Dornes was 2-over par on day one, but moved up a total of 30 spots in the standings after carding scores of 68 and 69 the last two days. He birdied each of his last two holes in round three to finish 3-under on the final day. Houston, who also produced a 69 Sunday, was 6-under for the tournament and just one stroke off the winner, Adrian Meronk from host East Tennessee State.
"Winning this tournament is so satisfying for everyone involved," Greg Nye, Nittany Lion head coach, said. "We had a substantial lead through the first 10 holes, then a couple teams caught fire and came at us, but we responded and finished the final five tough holes 5-under as a team."
