WENTZVILLE, Mo. - The Penn State women's hockey team dropped its College Hockey America opener Friday night against Lindenwood, 5-2, at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.

In net for the Nittany Lions (3-6-0, 0-1-0), Celine Whitlinger (Garden Grove, Calif.) made 20 saves on the night en route to breaking Nicole Paniccia's program record of 1,801 saves. Whitlinger now has 1,816 saves to her name as a Nittany Lion. Heading into tonight's game, Whitlinger needed six saves to set the Penn State record. Whitlinger made four saves in the first period and had to wait until early on in the second period to capture the record.

Roughly four minutes into the second period, Whitlinger made her record-breaking save on Shara Jasper.

For the fifth time in program history Friday night, the Nittany Lions scored two power play goals in a single game.

Early on in the game, junior Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) buried home her second goal of the 2015-16 campaign just 3:24 into the contest.

With the first period winding down, Lindenwood's (3-4-0, 1-0-0) Carrie Atkinson tied the game at one with 4:20 left in the opening frame.

After the first period of play the Nittany Lions and Lions were all knotted up at one. Both teams were able to convert on the power play during the opening period of play. The Nittany Lions scored on one of their four opportunities, while the Lions scored on their one of two man-advantage opportunities.

In the second period, sophomore defender Remi Martin (Littleton, Colo.) netted her first career goal for the Blue and White. With under seven minutes to play in the second stanza, freshmen Kelsey Crow (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Victoria Samuelsson (Leksand, Sweden) set up Martin for the go-ahead goal.

With her assist tonight, Samuelsson has tallied six assists in her first eight games a Nittany Lion.

Heading into the second intermission, the Nittany Lions held on to a 2-1 lead.

Though, in the third period it was all Lindenwood. In the final 20 minutes of play, Lindenwood rattled off four goals to capture the 5-2 win. Lindenwood capped off the win with an empty net goal with under two minutes to play in regulation.

Penn State and Lindenwood meet again tomorrow at 7 p.m. (CDT) at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
