UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in a pair of three-day meets Friday-Sunday. The Nittany Lions will look to set top times at the Georgia Fall Invitational in Gabrielsen Natatorium, while the divers and additional swimmers will also compete at the Big Al Open hosted by Princeton in DeNunzio Pool.

UGA Fall Invitational
In Athens, Georgia, the meet hosted by the University of Georgia will begin each day at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary rounds, with finals scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Joining the host Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs in the meet will be Auburn, Florida State, Virginia, Penn State, Vanderbilt and California (men only).

On the women's side, the No. 15 Nittany Lions will face tough competition, once again facing No. 1 Virginia as well as No. 3 Georgia and No. 10 Auburn. The men's meet features a trio of ranked teams: No. 2 California, No. 4 Georgia and No. 9 Auburn.

Big Al Open
All sessions of the meet will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network. A subscription is required. Preliminaries start at 11 a.m. on Friday and Saturday with finals beginning at 6 p.m. On Sunday, preliminaries begin an hour earlier at 10 a.m. and finals start at 5 p.m.

Teams competing in the meet in addition to the host Tigers and visiting Nittany Lions include Pittsburgh, Brown, Villanova, Dartmouth, Columbia and Rider.

The Nittany Lions
Penn State is competing in its first three-day invitational of the season after sweeping Princeton and UConn in a three-team, two-day invitational hosted in McCoy Natatorium Nov. 13-14. The three-week layoff has Penn State swimmers poised to swim their fastest times of the season.

On the women's side, Casey Francis boasts the highest event ranking, currently holding the nation's second fastest time in the mile of 16:05.37. Swam in the Penn State Invite, Francis broke both the Penn State and McCoy Natatorium records with the swim. Katelyn Sowinski swam a 16:25.78 in the same race and ranks 22nd nationally. Melissa Rodriguez ranks 18th in the 100 breaststoke with a long-course converted time of 1:01.27 and 34th in the200 breast (2:13.18).

Matt Stasiunas leads the men, ranking 39th in the mile with a time of 15:29.15. Stasiunas and Francis swept Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors the last time they competed.

The next competition will be after the Nittany Lions ring in the New Year, as they will compete in a tri-meet hosted by Yale with Rutgers.
