2015-16 Top Times: Penn State Women | Penn State Men
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's swimming and diving team is set for its rescheduled meet at Navy, which will also include Columbia, Friday starting at 2 p.m. in Lejeune Hall.
The tri-meet will include a series of 19 events. Relays will include the 400 medley, 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 freestyle. Penn State was originally supposed to compete at Navy last Saturday, but it was postponed due to heavy snowfall from Winter Storm Jonas.
The Series
In the all-time series against Navy, the Nittany Lions hold a record of 3-2. The two team's first competed back in 1944. Penn State hosted Navy last year, earning a 173-127 victory.
The Lions will compete against Ivy League-member Columbia for the first time in program history.
The Nittany Lions
The Blue and White recently returned to the pool for their first 2016 dual meet in New Haven, Connecticut against another Ivy League opponent, Yale. The divers led Penn State against the Bulldogs, but the Lions fell short, 189-153. Hector Garcia, won the 3-meter, setting a personal best score of 396.7. Teammate Connor Scanlon came in second in the event with a score of 328.10 after winning the 1-meter Friday. All four Penn State divers excelled, scoring above the first Yale diver in the 1-meter.
The Opponents
The Navy men (8-1) are currently ranked No. 24 by the CSCAA and No. 21 by CollegeSwimming.com. Last season, the men concluded the team portion of the championship season winning the ECAC Championship in Pittsburgh. The Midshipmen opened the 2015-2016 season with a win over George Mason, 158-123. Navy was undefeated until falling to North Carolina in their most recent dual meet.
Columbia (3-4, 2-3 Ivy League) placed 5th last season at the Ivy League Championships. The Lions started the New Year with their first win of the season, defeating Cornell. and continued a winning streak earning their third straight win last weekend at Brown.
Next Up
Both the men's and women's teams will be in action Saturday, Feb. 6 when Penn State hosts Villanova for its Senior Day meet in McCoy Natatorium starting at 1 p.m.
