SEATTLE, WASH. - For the seventh-time this season a Penn State school record has been broken as redshirt-freshman Tessa Barrett laid down the sixth-fastest time in the women's 5,000-meters this season with her time of 15:46.08 Friday night at the Dempsey Indoor Track on the campus of the University of Washington.

Barrett, who earned All-American honors during cross country season, took down one of the oldest records on the books as she erased the 31-year-old record of 15:53.50 set by Paula Renzi back in 1985.

Running in the race with Barrett was teammate Elizabeth Chikotas who finished in 12th-place in a time of 16:04.66, a season's best time, currently ranked No. 19 in the nation.

Barrett's time is ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten behind Michigan's Erin Finn who ran 15:38.98 Friday night in Geneva, Ohio.

Also representing the Nittany Lions on day one in Seattle were senior Glen Burkhardt ansd Ean DiSilvio in the men's 5,000-meters running times of 14:14.91 and 14:19.66, respectively.

Day two would see Tori Gerlach run 9:13.65 in the 3,000-meters, a season best time, while teammate Timothy McGowan clocked 8:08.69 in the same event to wrap up action on the west coast for Penn State.

While Barrett, Chikotas, Gerlach, Burkhardt, McGowan, and DiSilvio competed on the west coast, the majority of the team took part in the Fastrack National Invite at the newly opened Ocean Breeze indoor track on Staten Island in New York.

Penn State would finish action in New York with five event wins on the day starting first in the women's shot put where Rachel Fatherly, who set the school record in the event at last week's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup meet, would finish competition with a best throw of 16.62m (54'-6.50").

Fatherly would carry her success in the women's shot put with her to the women's weight throw, capturing her second win on the day in as many events with her toss of 20.42m (67'-0") a season best.

The Nittany Lions would pick up two more event wins in the field as pole vault school record holder Lexi Masterson cleared 4.20m (13'-9.50") for a second week in a row to win her signature event, along with Madeline Holmberg who took the win in the women's long jump with her mark of 5.91m (19'-4.75"), a season best.

Penn State's final first-place finish on the day would come by way of the men's 60-meters as sophomore Xavier Smith sprinted his way to the victory needing only 6.80 seconds to capture the title in the finals.

Penn State would combine to record 54 top-10 finishes on the day, several of those second-place finishes including Tessa Barrett (5000m), Quenee Dale (60mH), Ahmenah Richardson (HJ), Alyssa Robinson (Shot Put), Morgan Shigo (Weight Throw), Malik Moffett (200m)and the Men's & Women's 4x400m Relays.

Penn State will return to action tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. PT in Seattle, Wash. for day two action at the Husky Classic.
