Post-Game Notes
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- No. 6 Penn State men's volleyball (12-5, 7-1) dropped their first EIVA match of the season to Saint Francis (Pa.) (12-6, 5-3) in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 23-25) Friday evening at Rec Hall.
"Congratulations to Saint Francis, I thought they played one of the best matches they've ever played against us," said head coach Mark Pavlik.
"They didn't go away, they hung in there, we were the team that was making the mistakes and our effectiveness dropped off at crucial points in the match. I thought that we had opportunities in game three and four to just control the match, but we could string enough good plays together for a long enough time to take them out of the match. Tomorrow we have to let this one go and come in and get ready for the Buckeyes."
Chris Nugent led the Nittany Lion offense with 17 kills on .419 hitting, adding a season high 12 digs and one block to earn Mike Anderson Penn State Player of the Match honors for the fifth time this season. Spencer Sauter finished second on the team with a near season-high 12 kills hitting .258 while also collecting five digs and three blocks.
Setter Taylor Hammond finished the night with three digs and 29 assist.
Penn State jumped out to a 1-0 lead grabbing the first set 25-21 having led from beginning to end.
After dropping the opening set, Saint Francis rattled off three consecutive set wins to earn their first win against Penn State in program history. Penn State drops to 37-1 all-time against the Red Flash.
Penn State will return to action tomorrow night as they host the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes in Rec Hall with a first whistle slated for 7 p.m.
