UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- On senior night in Rec Hall, No. 11 Penn State men's volleyball downed Sacred Heart 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18 ) to clinch their 18-consecutive EIVA regular season championship Saturday night.

The Nittany Lions started the night by honoring their seniors (Taylor Hammond, Zack Parik, Andrew Roberts, Spencer Sauter, Matt Seifert) who played their final regular season game in Rec Hall tonight.

Penn State, who needed one win to clinch the regular season title, took care of business Saturday night in Rec Hall.

Penn State finished the night hitting .396 as a team racking up 58 kills, three service aces, and 9.5 team blocks.

Chris Nugent finished with a match-high and career -high 21 kills on 31 attempts hitting .645 for the night while adding a service ace and three blocks to earn Mike Anderson player of the gam honors for the sixth time this season.

Matt Seifert and Lee Smith each finished the match with eight kills hitting .500 and .353, respectively.

The Nittany Lions found themselves in a hole early trailing 3-0 as Sacred Heart notched three quick kills before Penn State's Lee Smith (Sewickley, Pa.) got the Lions on the board with a kill to make it 3-1 in favor of the Pioneers.

Penn State completed the comeback to tie the set up at 17-17 following a Sacred Heart timeout on a Pioneer attack error.

A Matt Seifert (Reading, Pa.) kill would cause Sacred Heart to call their second timeout of the set trailing Penn State 21-19.

Out of the timeout, Penn State finished out the set on a 4-1 run capped by a service ace from Andrew Roberts (Grantville, Pa.) to take a 1-0 lead.

The Nittany Lions took a 4-3 lead over the Pioneers on an attack from Chris Nugent (Fair Lawn, N.J.) that ricocheted off the defender and into the stands for the kill.

Penn State took a two point lead up 8-6 on a service error by the Pioneers, but Sacred Heart rallied back to take a two point lead of their own at 15-13 on a Nittany Lion attack error.

A timeout by head coach Mark Pavlik sparked a late set rally pulling to within one point of Sacred Heart trailing 24-23 prompting a Pioneer timeout.

Sacred Heart took the second set out of the timeout on a kill from Austin Arcala to knot it up at one set apiece heading into the break.

Set three saw the Nittany Lions take a 2-1 lead after going up 2-0 early in the set and never looking back taking the set by a final score of 25-18.

Sacred Heart jumped out to a 2-0 early set lead before Penn State started the charge. The Nittany Lions tied it up at 2-2 and kept going as they took set four by a score of 25-18 to end the game at 3-1 and improve to 18-8 on the season and capture the regular season EIVA title with a record of 11-1 in league play.

Penn State captured their 18th-consecutive EIVA championship and 32nd over in program history.

The Nittany Lions will wrap up the regular season with a road trip to face Charleston (WV) and George Mason April 15 and 16 before returning home to host the EIVA championships April 21-23 in Rec Hall.
