Women's Tennis Competes In Day One Of Regionals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; October 14, 2016 ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team completed day one matches at the ITA Regionals. The team will continue matches tomorrow Saturday, October 15 through Sunday, October 16. in Norfolk, Va.

Two players competed in singles matches. Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) beat Ansofi Wreder of Navy 6-4, 6-0, but lost against Hovsepyan of UMD 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Florida) defeated Carolina Lewis of WV 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, but fell to Siopacha of GW 6-3, 6-3.

Head Coach Chris Cagle commented on the first day of regionals. "It was good to start the day with Jackie and Shannon coming through with singles wins. Devan and Katia have been playing good doubles in practice so it is nice to see that carry over. Tomorrow will be a full day of tennis so we look forward to the competition."

Penn State had three pairs of Nittany Lions compete in doubles.

Blik/McCluskey beat Bedon/Nussaume of Temple 8-5. They are set to play Rasmussen/Braun of VCU Saturday morning at 9AM. Hanley/Smith fell to Meadors/Mackenzie of Navy 8-6. Sapogova/Shukow lost against Berezhnaya/Aubets of VCU 8-4.

Matches at the ITA Regionals continue tomorrow morning in Norfolk, Va.
