UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior back Emilee Ehret has accepted an offer to take part in Teach for America following her graduation from Penn State in 2017.
Ehret, a Political Science and Education & Public Policy (EPP) major, recently wrapped up her four-year playing career in the Blue & White for 30th-year Hall of Fame head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss helping her team capture the 2016 Big Ten Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Ehret will be assigned to Chicago-Northwest Indiana Region and will teach Early Childhood Education.
A Philadelphia, PA native, Ehret spoke briefly on her acceptance into the program
"Seven years ago my older sister, Margaretha, joined Teach for America with great hope, optimism, and excitement in taking on all the challenging experiences that come with teaching," said Ehret.
"From watching her lead a classroom, I feel that there is no greater, more important, more difficult, or more fulfilling work then being a teacher. I believe that Teach for America cannot only provide me the pathway for fulfilling my dream of becoming a teacher, but also provide me with a tremendous community of thoughtful, dedicated, and passionate educators who can push me to be the best teacher I can be for the many smiling faces that I look forward to meeting."
"Teach for America is a once in a lifetime experience for those passionate about education," Ehret continued.
"This organization has provided pathways for teachers to excel in their field and make a true impact on the lives of others. If you feel strongly about providing quality education and opportunities for all, regardless of the zip code, then TFA can provide you with the knowledge and skills to work towards this goal as well as a community and network of like-minded individuals."
Teachers of America's mission is to enlist, develop, and mobilize as many as possible of our nation's most promising future leaders to grow and strengthen the movement for educational equity and excellence.
TFA recruits remarkable and diverse individuals to become teachers in low-income communities. They commit to teach for two years and are hired by our partner public schools across the country. During these two years they are called corps members.
