Davis Tabbed Big Ten Co-Special Teams Player of the Week

Nov. 21, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Junior kicker Tyler Davis (St. Charles, Ill.) continued his impressive season by earning Big Ten Co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors after going 4-for-4 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points against Rutgers. Davis shares the accolade with Iowa's Riley McCarron.

Despite windy conditions, Davis connected on all four of his field go attempts to lead the Nittany Lions past Rutgers, 39-0. He had a career-high four field goals (32, 34, 40, 32), passing his previous high of three field goals set twice this season, most recently against Minnesota. With a trio of extra points, he scored a career-high 15 points against the Scarlet Knights. Davis also tied his season long with a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Davis' four field goals moved him into a tie for sixth place on Penn State's season field goals list. He is tied with Travis Forney (1998), Kevin Kelly (2007, 2008) and Collin Wagner (2010) for the position. Davis also moved into 13th place on Penn State's all-time field goals made list with 28 career field goals. Davis is 10th on Penn State's season scoring chart with 104 points. Davis is 28-for-30 on field goals and 55-for-55 on extra points for his career.

This is the award for Davis this season as he was one of the Groza Stars of the Week following the Minnesota game. The junior is a semifinalist for the Groza Award for the nation's top kicker. Davis is the ninth Nittany Lion to take home Big Ten weekly laurels this season and third to claim special team accolades (Grant Haley & Marcus Allen).

Penn State is 9-2 overall and 7-1 in Big Ten play after the victory at Rutgers Saturday. The Nittany Lions return home for the Senior Day, regular season finale against Michigan State at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.
