UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; November 6, 2016ââ'¬" The third and final day of split tournaments concluded as the Penn State women's tennis team took on Dartmouth at the Big Green Invitational and the University of North Carolina Charlotte at the Kitty Harrison Invitational.
Four Nittany Lions competed in singles at The Big Green Invitational. Taylor Shukow (Boca Raton, Florida) picked up a singles win vs. McCann defeating her 7-5, 6-4. Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Florida) lost to Ng 6-1,6-2. Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) fell to Crawford 6-1, 6-0, 6-1. Liyin Xu (Chengdu, China) was defeated by Guan 6-3,6-2.
Assistant head coach Mike Fenwick commented on Shukow's performance. "Taylor did a great job of playing disciplined tennis. She played her best on the last day."
Blik, Smith and Hanley recorded singles victories at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on the final day of competition. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) defeated Martin 6-4,7-6(1). Samantha Smith of (Carey, N.C.) beat Imparato 6-4, 6-1. Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) defeated Vondarschmidt 6-0,6-3. Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz) was beat by Lee 6-4,6-1.
"This weekend at both tournaments will prepare us heading into the spring dual match season," said head coach Chris Cagle. "It was good to pick up three singles wins today to finish the tournament at UNC."
With the fall 2016 tournaments officially wrapped up, the team will look to prepare for the spring 2017 season.
