April 12, 2016 UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Lionettes dance team placed third at the National Dance Alliance Collegiate Nationals competition last weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla., giving Penn State Cheer/Dance another Top 5 finish for 2015-16.
Earlier this year, the Penn State cheerleading team placed fifth at the Universal Cheerleading Association College Cheerleading Championships. The Nittany Lions improved by five spots from their 2014-15 finish at nationals.
The Lionettes moved up to the Jazz Division 1A and placed third among the 23 teams, trailing only BYU and Texas Tech. Florida State, North Carolina, Missouri and Connecticut were among the other squads that competed in the Jazz Division 1A.
The Lionettes also were No. 3 last year at nationals and won three consecutive NDA Collegiate Dance National Championships from 2012-14.
