UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State swimming and diving team returns to competition Friday evening and Saturday morning, as the Nittany Lion men will challenge Yale in a dual meet, while women will face Yale and Rutgers in a double dual starting Friday at 5 p.m. in McCoy Natatorium.

The Series
The Penn State women's team is 14-2 against Rutgers since 1977 and will be meeting Yale for the second time in as many years after earning a win over the Bulldogs last season. Additionally, the Penn State-Rutgers matchup will be the third between the teams as Big Ten members. The Penn State men's team is 0-2 in the series against Yale after suffering defeats in each of the past two seasons.

The Nittany Lions
Fresh off a training trip to Naples, Florida, Penn State is competing for the first time since the Ohio State Invitational the week before Thanksgiving. Shane Ryan continues to lead the men's team, ranking fourth in the NCAA in the 100 back and seventh in the 100 free. Additionally, freshman Kaelan Freund was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week following the Ohio State meet and Hector Garcia Boissier leads the divers. On the women's side, a trio rank among the conference leaders in their respective events: Katie Saloky (50 free), Ally McHugh (400 IM) and Katelyn Sowinski (200 Fly). Additionally, Casey Francis and Niki Price both enjoyed strong outings at Ohio State, achieving NCAA B-cut times in the mile and 200 backstroke, respectively.

The Opponents
The Yale men (8-0) and women (10-0) enter the meet undefeated, while the Rutgers women are 2-6. Yale women's assistant coach Kerry Smith is a 2005 graduate of Penn State and was a senior captain of the women's team that won the Big Ten Championship that season.

Penn State will host Navy for Senior Day in McCoy Natatorium Saturday, Jan 21 starting a 11 a.m. It will also be Military Appreciation Day, and the intermission breaks will feature a Penn State Ability Athletics exhibition race and the second annual Great Penn State Duck Toss, respectively.
