FORT WAYNE, IN - The No. 14 men's volleyball team took care of business against IPFW (0-6) in straight sets (25-16, 25-23, 27-25) Saturday night in at Arnie Ball Court.

Once again, Chris Nugent led the Lions in kills collecting 13 on the night while hitting .391 and adding two digs defensively to go along with a lone assist.

Penn State as a team hit .376 led by Kevin Gear's .800 hitting performance recording eight kills on 10 attempts. Calvin Mende added nine kills hitting .375 adding five digs of his own.

Royce Clemens led the team with his 11 digs while Luke Braswell poured in 35 assist.

Penn State (2-2) took the opening set 25-16 closing it out on a 14-6 run starting with a kill from Mende and capped with service acr from Jalen Penrose.

The Nittany Lions trailed to open the second set but matched the Mastodons point for point before a 7-7 tie slipped to a 10-7 IPFW lead prompting a Penn State timeout. Penn State fought back to tie it up 20-20 and then go ahead and take the set in a close 25-23 score.

IPFW made the Lions earn set three. After trailing by four most of the third set, IPFW battled back to tie things up at 20-20. a combined 10 points later the teams were still tied this time 25-25 on a kill from IPFW's Graydon Schroeder. A costly service error from IPFW gave the lead to Penn State as well as the next serve. Calvin Mende made it could as he blasted home a game ending kill to take the set 27-25 and the match 3-0.

Penn State will return to action Thursday Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. ET as they take on Loyola in their 2017 home opener at Rec Hall.
