Penn State Defeats West Virginia 4-3

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; January 22, 2017ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team performed strong in singles, securing a 4-3 win over West Virginia. Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) defeated Habiba Shaker 6-2, 1-6, 4-6. Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) notched a straight sets victory beating Lyn Yuen Choo 6-3, 6-1. Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) clinched the match with her first spring dual match 6-3, 6-3 victory over Yvon Martinez. Dasha Sapogova (Belarus, Minsk) picked up a win against Paula Goetz beating her 5-7, 6-1, 2-6 in three sets.

Head coach Chris Cagle commented on the teams win. "Credit to our team for fighting all weekend. It was neat to see us get better as the weekend went along. Today we got contributions from our entire team and it was great to see Bennett Dunn clinch for us in her first spring dual match. We will enjoy this for a bit and then get back to work to take on James Madison next weekend."

Penn State was unable to collect the extra doubles point.

The Nittany Lions return to the Sarni Tennis Center next Saturday, January 28 when they take on James Madison University at 12:00p.m. This will be the fourth matchup of a six-game home stand to start off the spring season.
