UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; January 28, 2017ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team fell 4-3 in a hard fought match against James Madison University. Katia Blik, Samantha Smith and Shannon Hanley recorded singles victories. Blik defeated Rachel Nelson 6-1, 6-4. Smith took down Jona Roka 7-5, 6-4. Hanley recorded a straight sets win to beat Abby Amos 6-4, 6-4.

"Today was another tough battle, said head coach Chris Cagle." We have been in a number of 4-3 matches already this season. We had opportunities and we did not convert quite enough of those opportunities. We will learn from today and use it to make us better moving forward."

James Madison claimed two of the three doubles matches as they took an early 1-0 lead. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) and Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) beat Tiema Guibe and Kimmy Herrock 6-3. Samantha Tutelman (New York, N.Y.) competed in her first doubles match of the season, but could not notch the win with doubles partner Dasha Sapogova (Minsk, Belarus). Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Florida) and Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) fell to Emma Peterson and Rebecca Harris of 6-4.

The Nittany Lions return to the Sarni Indoor Tennis Center next Saturday, February 4 when they take on the University of Kentucky. First serve is set for 9:00 a.m.
