February 14, 2017 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; The Penn State men's tennis team will host their eighth home match in a row this Wednesday, February 15 at 4 p.m. against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The match will be held in the Indoor Tennis Center.
This past weekend, the Lions went undefeated in three home matches spread over the course of two days. On Friday, they faced VCU and battled for a 4-3 win. On Sunday, the blue and white faced JMU and Bucknell and were victorious with 7-0 results for each.
The Ohio State men's tennis team will come into Happy Valley with an undefeated 9-0 record for the season so far, placing them at No. 3 in the nation. The Buckeyes are coming off of two very big wins last weekend against nationally ranked opponents. Against No. 15 Kentucky, the Buckeyes finished with a 4-1 win and against No. 10 Georgia they won 4-0.
The blue and white have been seeing success from their freshmen so far this season. Namely, Christian Lakoseljac (King City, Ontario, Canada) is 5-2 overall in singles this spring, going 1-0 at the No. 1 position and 4-2 at the No. 2 spot. Sophomore Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) has also seen success this spring, posting a 4-1 singles record at the No. 5 and 6 anchor positions. Senior Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y) has also been good for the Lions this year, posting an undefeated 4-0 record in singles so far while playing at the No. 3 and 4 positions.
Penn State's next conquest following this mid-week matchup will be on Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. on their home court against Brown.
