UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State track & field teams are set to compete in the 2017 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute, one of the largest indoor competition complexes in the world, in Geneva, Ohio starting Friday, February 24.

NCAA QUALIFYING
The Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships will be the final opportunity for the Nittany Lions to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The top-16 individuals and top-12 relays in their respective events will qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Heading into this weekend, Penn State has seven NCAA-qualifying performances.

LEADING THE B1G
According to Track & Field Results and Reporting System (TFRRS), the Nittany Lions have the top performance in three events.
Big Ten event leaders entering the meet include Isaiah Harris in the 600-meters (1:14.96), Danae Rivers in the 600-meters (1:29.06) and Mile (4:32.55).

NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Nittany Lions currently have eight top-20 performances in seven NCAA championship events.

On the track, Isaiah Harris ranks fifth in the 800-meters (1:46.65) while true freshman Domenic Perretta is 19th in the same event with his personal best time of 1:48.17.

Danae Rivers is ranked No. 12 in the 800-meters with her school record time of 2:04.04 as well holding the No. 3 spot in the mile with her time of 4:32.55 - also a Penn State school record.

Tessa Barrett is 14th in the 3,000-meters running a school record time of 9:07.22 earlier this season breaking the school record set by 2012 Olympian Bridget Franek. Barrett is also ranked
No. 6 in the NCAA in the 5,000-meters.

In the field, Bryce Williams holds the No. 20 spot in the NCAA in the men's triple jump with his mark of 51'8.25" (15.75m), while Dannielle Gibson sits at No. 7 with her jump of 43'-9" (13.33m).

The women's DMR is ranked seventh in the nation with the quartet of Julie Kocjancic, Tichina Rhodes, Rachel Banks, and Danae Rivers recording a time of 11:01.16 solo at the Penn State Tune-Up.

NO. 15 IN THE NATION
The Penn State women's track & field team is ranked No. 14 in the National Computer Rankings, as released Monday afternoon (Feb. 20) by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The week five rankings feature Penn State as the top ranked women's team in the Big Ten followed closely by Indiana at No. 16, Michigan at No. 18, Purdue at No. 21 and Illinois at No. 24.

Penn State is also ranked as the top team in the Mid-Atlantic region, a spot they have held all year.

MOVIN' ON UP
The Nittany Lions have set 16 top-five performances in school history during the 2017 indoor season, including six school records.

DEFENDING CHAMPS
The Nittany Lions have one individual and one relay looking to defend their 2016 Big Ten titles.

Isaiah Harris is the defending champion in the men's 800-meters, capturing last year's Big Ten title with his All-Time Big Ten Indoor time of 1:46.65.
The men's distance medley relay has won five-straight titles following their 2016 title run of 9:43.25.

Television Coverage
BTN will air tape-delayed coverage of the Big Ten Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships at 6:00 p.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 27. Events will also be streamed live on Friday and Saturday on BTN Plus via BTN2Go (links above in sidebar).

NEXT TIME OUT
Penn State track & field travels to College Station, Texas, for the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The NCAA meet takes place on the campus of Texas A&M, March 10-11. To qualify for the NCAA meet, the top-16 individuals and top-12 relays are selected.
