March 11, 2017 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; The Penn State men's tennis team wrapped up their spring break training today against the University of South Florida in the final round of the South Florida Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Nittany Lions took second place in this tournament with todays 4-0 loss to the Bulls.
"I am somewhat disappointed in our performance today," said head coach Jeff Zinn. "I thought we would give USF more of a match than we did. They are an extremely well coached team, they are battle tested and they have the mentality that I want my players to have. We have a lot of work to do and it all starts with the beginning of the Big Ten schedule. We will have our chances and now we have to go out and prove it."
"We didn't come through in doubles today," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "We can't do that and expect to pick up four points in singles. Christos [Antonopoulos] and Aws [Laaribi] both had opportunities for breaks in their first sets; it came down to several deuce points. Overall I think we did a decent job of staying in the points, but lost some steam along the way."
The Nittany Lions will travel back up north to East Lansing, Mich. for their next matchup against Michigan State University on Sunday, March 19 at 12:00 p.m.
