DAY ONE RESULTS
TEMPE, Ariz. - Penn State wrapped up the opening day of the PAC-12/Big Ten Challenge hosted by Arizona State with several personal best marks and the men's team tied for the lead after day one.
Day one saw the hammer throw and javelin athletes take to the ring and runways to open up action in the two-day meet.
Obeng Marfo brought home a sixth-place finish in the women's hammer throw with her new PR of 183'-6" (55.94m) improving from her old personal best mark of 170'-0.25" (51.82m).
For the men, Penn State placed two athletes in the top-six as Morgan Shigo finished fourth with a best of 200'-0" (60.96m) followed closely by Kory Decesaris in sixth with his best throw of 191'-2" (58.28m).
Stephanie Sievers and Kayla Zoschg both put points on the board for Penn State as they finished competition in fourth and seventh-place, respectively.
Sievers posted a huge personal best of 154'-5" (47.08m), while Zoschg finished with a best of 143'-8" (43.80m).
The return of senior All-American Michael Shuey was witnessed by those in attendance as the team captain hurled the javelin 247'-2" (75.34m) in his first meet since 2015.
Shuey won the meet by just under five meters as Nebraska's Cody Walton took silver with a best of 70.44m.
Also scoring in the event for Penn State were Michael Biddle in fourth-place who had a career day with days best of 225'2" (68.63m) to set a new PR, while Robert Cardina finished eighth with a best throw of 193'-9" (59.06m).
Penn State is currently in fourth-place on the women's side with 10 team points through three events while the men's team is tied for the lead scoring 24 points to finish day one side-by-side with Nebraska who scored an identical 24 points.
The Nittany Lions will hit the track tomorrow starting at 5:30 p.m. ET with the men's discus throw featuring 2016 NCAA qualifier David Lucas.
