UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 29, 2017-- The Penn State women's tennis team (5-8) returns home to the Sarni Indoor Tennis Center this weekend for two conference matches. The Nittany Lions take on Maryland Friday, March 31 at 5:00p.m. ET. Action continues at 12:00 p.m. ET. on Sunday, April 2 against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Cagle on the Big Ten matchups this weekend
"It will be nice to be home for two Big Ten matches this weekend. We are working hard in preparation for the weekend and all of our focus is on Maryland as we head into Friday. We hope to have a great crowd out as the fan support will be big to create our usual home court advantage. It should be a great weekend of tennis."
Scouting Maryland
The Terrapins enter the weekend sitting at number 37 in the nation. They are coming off a pair of losses against Illinois and Northwestern. Maryland enters Happy Valley with an 11-3 overall record on the season and a 2-2 record in the Big Ten.
Scouting Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights are also coming off a pair of losses from last weekend against Big Ten opponents Illinois and Northwestern. Before the Knights take on the Nittany Lions they will stop in Columbus for a matchup against Ohio State. Katherine Muzik currently leads the Knights in singles 6-6. Farris Cunningham and Mingxiu Du are close behind with five wins each.
Nittany Lions in B1G Conference Play
Penn State is currently 2-1 in the Big Ten. They enter the weekend with a 5-8 overall record on the season. The remaining matches of the season are all against Big Ten opponents.

Freshman Samantha Smith and Shannon Hanley lead the team with six singles wins each.
