UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The sixth-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team is riding a four-game winning streak as they return home after three straight road contests to battle Ohio State in a Big Ten Conference affair on Saturday afternoon.

The game is slated for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network.

PROMOTIONS

  • Saturday's contest will feature a pre-game kids zone complete with a bounce house as well as pizza and ice cream available.
  • At halftime, three lucky fans will have the chance to compete in the $10,000 shot competition. You will be able to enter for your chance at the money before and during the game.
  • Saturday is also LifeLink PSU Day and all LifeLink students will be honored during halftime for their upcoming graduation.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State defeated Drexel, 15-6, on Wednesday afternoon to close out a three-game road swing in Philadelphia.
  • The six goals allowed by Penn State are the least they have given up all season, one less than they allowed against Rutgers during an 18-7 victory on March 18.
  • Senior Steph Lazo registered her fourth game this season with seven or more points after a four goal and three assist performance. It was her seventh game all season with multiple assists and her ninth multi-goal game.
  • Sophomore Madison Carter registered five points of her own after securing her ninth hat trick of the season while adding a pair of assists. Carter has scored at least two goals in each game this season while tying a career-high with six goals on a pair of occasions.

THE MATCHUP

  • Penn State holds the 17-6 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to 1997 as the teams have met at least once over the last 20 years with the exception of the 1999 season.
  • The Nittany Lions held their longest winning streak against the Buckeyes from 2008-2013 where they went 8-0, however, in the four meetings since the teams have split with two wins apiece.
  • The Buckeyes collected a 16-13 victory last season in Columbus as part of the only back-to-back losses for the Nittany Lions in 2016. They dropped their next game 10-7 to Cornell.
  • Katie O'Donnell collected four goals in the game while Carter and Lazo added three and two, respectively in the defeat.

TOP OF HER GAME

  • Lazo currently leads the entire nation in points with 66 on the season while her 36 goals and 30 assists rank 12th and third, respectively. Both her point and assist totals lead the Big Ten while her 36 goals only trail the 43 of teammate Madison Carter.
  • Lazo currently has 188 career points, which rank 16th on the all-time list and are just five points behind Betsy Williams '84 for 15th.
  • She has a good chance at becoming just the 13th player in program history to eclipse the 200-point plateau and could climb as high as sixth if she keeps her rapid scoring pace down the stretch of the season.
  • Lazo's 76 career assists also tie for eighth on the all-time assists list.

CAT NAP

  • Opposing players had better not sleep on goalkeeper Cat Rainone. The senior is currently second in the Big Ten with an 8.88 goals against average, which ranks 12th nationally.
  • Rainone also has a solid .464 save percentage, is averaging 7.08 saves per contest, and earned the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award for her efforts last week during wins over then-No. 5 Princeton and Johns Hopkins. The senior stopped a career-high 10 shots in the victory over the Tigers.

CARTER'S CONTINUED DOMINANCE

  • Madison Carter continues to lead the Big Ten with 43 goals, a mark good for fourth in the entire nation. Her 50 points are second in the Big Ten behind Lazo and rank 11th in the nation.
  • Carter earned her second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor this past Tuesday.

SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES

  • Ohio State is limping into this contest losing six of their last seven games including two-in-a-row after starting the season 5-1.
  • The Buckeyes are allowing the second highest goals per contest at 11.54 while only averaging 11.1 themselves to rank fifth in the Big Ten.
  • OSU does lead the conference in ground balls per game scooping up 19.6 on average.
  • The Buckeyes are paced on offense by Molly Wood with 35 goals and six assists for 41 points. Only four Ohio State players have registered double-digit goals as Baley Parrott (22), Liza Hernandez (21) and Erika Keselman (16) all join Wood.
  • Jill Rizzo has started all 13 games for the Buckeyes so far this season turning in an 11.67 goals against average while ranking third in the Big Ten with a .470 save percentage. Her 133 saves are the most in all of Division I.
