SEATTLE, Wash. - The Penn State softball team fell 13-1 in a five-inning contest with the No. 8 Huskies of the University of Washington at Seattle University Wednesday, March 8.

The Nittany Lions (8-11) notched six hits against Washington with senior Kristina Brackpool (Valencia, Calif.) going 2-for-2 at the plate and drawing one walk on the night, while four other players tallied one hit apiece. Sophomore Madison Seifert (Wildwood, Mo.) suffered the loss in the circle, pitching two complete innings, while freshman Madey Smith (Washington, N.J.) closed out the final three innings with three strikeouts and giving up one run.

The Huskies opened up scoring in the top of the first inning when a leadoff walk was plated on an Ali Aguilar single to left field. Washington extended its lead to 6-0 in the top of the second inning using four hits, including back-to-back doubles to score five runs.

UW continued to tack on the runs in the top of the third innings, capitalizing on two Penn State errors and adding four hits to take a 13-0 lead through three complete innings at Logan Field. Following two Penn State pitching changes, Smith came on in relief to close out the final three innings giving up just three hits and allowing only one run to score.

Elling singled to center field to start the bottom of the fourth inning before pinch runner Christa Wagner (Plainville, Mass.) came around to score on a Toni Polk single and a Washington throwing error. The lone run would be all Penn State could plate as it fell 13-1 in five innings to the No. 8 Huskies.
