UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 16, 2017ââ'¬" The Illinois women's tennis team shut out Penn State 4-0. After competing in the final road series, the Nittany Lions are 5-14 on the season. Penn State will honor the seniors next weekend.
"The scores show how close today was," said head coach Chris Cagle. "We split sets on five singles courts but could not get across the finish line to give ourselves a chance on the three remaining courts. The only thing we can do is keep working each day to get a little better as the differences between winning losing are very small. It will be nice to be home next weekend for the end of our regular season."
The Fighting Illini secured the doubles point taking an early 1-0 lead over Penn State.
The Nittany Lions return home next weekend when they take on two Big Ten rivals. The Nittany Lions host Purdue at 4:00p.m. ET. They close out the season Sunday, April 23 against Indiana.
