ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The fifth-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions conclude the regular season portion of their 2017 slate as they travel to Ann Arbor to battle the Michigan Wolverines at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

THE MATCHUP

  • Penn State and Michigan will meet for just the fourth time in the breif history of the series as the Nittany Lions hold the 3-0 all-time lead dating back to 2014.
  • This marks the second straight contest in Ann Arbor as the first two meeting were played in Happy Valley.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Nittany Lions dropped a hard fought battle to No. 1 Maryland, 16-14, at the Penn State Lacrosse Field as the Terps solidified at least a share of the Big Ten Conference regular season title.
  • Junior Katie O'Donnell ripped in five goals for the second straight contest to tie a career-high while sophomore Madison Carter also tied her career-best with six scores, her third such game this season.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cat Rainone stopped a career-high 15 shots in the setback.

GET AHEAD, STAY AHEAD

  • The loss to Maryland marked the first time this season that the Nittany Lions have been defeated when scoring first. Penn State is 11-1 when scoring the first goal of a game this season. PSU was outscored 10-8 in the second half.
  • Penn State is also 10-1 when leading at halftime with their only loss coming back in March against Colorado, the Nittany Lions led 7-5 at the half in that game and were outscored 11-4 in the second half.
  • The Maryland and Colorado games mark the only two times that Penn State has allowed 10 or more goals in a single half on the season.
  • Penn State also fell to 0-2 on the year when allowing 15 or more goals as in both losses this season they have given up 16 goals. On the other hand the Nittany Lions are 7-0 when scoring at least 15 goals this season.

CAPTAIN K.O.

  • Junior Katie O'Donnell continued her stellar play against ranked opponents this season as she scored five times last week against No. 1 Maryland.
  • O'Donnell has now scored 26 goals against ranked teams this season including 14 in her last three and her 47 goals are good for third in the Big Ten

LUCKY NUMBER 13

  • After a five point performance against No. 1 Maryland last Thursday, senior Steph Lazo sits at 199 career points and is just a single point shy of becoming the 13th Nittany Lion in program history to record 200 points.
  • Lazo is currently tied for 13th on the all-time scoring list with her 199 points while her 82 assists are good for seventh and her 117 goals are just four shy of 16th in program history

CAGED IN

LAZO AND CARTER NAMED TEWAARATON NOMINEES

  • Senior Steph Lazo and sophomore Madison Carter were named the programs sixth and seventh Tewaaraton Nominees and the fourth and fifth under Head Coach Missy Doherty.
  • Madison Cyr was Penn State's lone nominee last season as Penn State has had at least one nominee in five of the last six seasons with 2014 being the only outlier.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES

  • Michigan comes in losers of three of their last four contests and are just 5-11 on the year and 1-4 in the Big Ten. Their only conference win came in overtime against Ohio State in the middle of March.
