WTN: Lions Complete Day Two of Seahawk National Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -The Penn State women's tennis team wrapped up its opening matches at the Seahawk National Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. Competition continues through October 1, 2017.

Ines Milosevic (Burlington, Ontario) and Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S Wales, Australia) both continued to team up in doubles play in their Penn State debuts. The duo lost to Rasmussen and Ifidzhen of VCU 5-2 downed Cox and Vardanian of Coastal Carolina 6-2. Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) dropped a 6-4 match to Mount and Coastal Carolina.

Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) and Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) fell 6-2 to Dalla Bona and Bondar of CCU as well. Dunn and Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweden) lost a 6-3 decision to Siopach and Herlogsson of George Washington. Hanley and Smith picked up a doubles win with a 6-1 victory over Witmus and Araujo of VCU.

Penn State saw improvement in singles play this weekend. The Nittany Lions went 4-1 in a match-up against UNC-Wilmington. Milosovic dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Madara Straume; O'Gorman downed Zandra Fougner 6-2, 7-5; Hanley beat Sabrina Barisano 6-4, 6-3; Wikberg downed Celeste Matute 6-2, 6-3; and Svarre beat Sarah Horn 6-4, 6-2.

The Nittany Lions battled Old Dominion tough, but dropped four of five. O'Gorman lost 6-2, 6-1 to Olivarez; Hanley fell 7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-7 to Vlasova; Milosevic fell 6-2, 7-5 to McLelland; and Svarre lost 6-4, 6-4 to Rajkovic. Wikberg picked up Penn State's singles win against ODU, downing Malenko 4-6, 7-5, 13-11.

"I feel like our singles play improved today," said head coach Chris Cagle. "We talked last night that you can improve with each day of the tournament and we say that. Improvement will again be our goal tomorrow."

The Nittany Lions are in action again tomorrow at the Seahawk National Invitational at UNCW.
