UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The Penn State women's tennis team finished the final day of competition at the Seahawk National Invitational, completing its second tournament of the fall season. The Nittany Lions competed against Coastal Carolina and Campbell.
In singles play, the Nittany Lions went 3-2 against Coastal Carolina. Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S Wales, Australia) defeated Iryna Vardanian 7-5,6-2. Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) won against Somer Dalla-Bonna 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. Ines Milosevic (Burlington, Ontario) lost to Rylie Cox 6-0, 6-0. Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) fell to Sara Bondar 6-4, 6-2. Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweden) defeated Jessie Mount 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
In doubles play, the team went 2-1 against Campbell University. Milosevic and O'Gorman lost to Alexandra Andrivot and Isabel Boada 6-4. Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) and Shannon Hanley defeated Ana Castilla and Georgina Segarra 6-4. Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Wikberg defeated Alexandra Nicoara and Pauline Roustan 7-6(4).
"One of the benefits of coming to UNCW was playing in a bit more windy conditions. This weekend will help us in the long run," said head coach Chris Cagle. "Gabby (O'Gorman), Shannon (Hanley) and Hanna (Wikberg) stepped up in many ways in their singles play. Our doubles was a bit up and down but we will continue to work to get better there. I look forward to getting ready for regionals."
The Nittany Lions will be in action again at the ITA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va., from October 13 to October 17.
