Penn State Women's BasketballPostgame Quotes vs. DrexelNov. 12, 2017

Coquese Washington | Penn State Head Coach

Q: You have four players scoring in double-figures today, does that speak to a team basketball?
CW: Absolutely. I think we have a pretty unselfish team and at some points it can be too much, but we do a good job of trying to find each other and understanding what are great positions for our teammates to be in. I think as we get more and more experience out there, our players will continue to learn each other and put each other in great positions. They did that tonight with both Jaida Travascio-Green and Jaylen Williams, which was getting them the ball in positions where they can be at their best. When we do that, the results speak for themselves.

Q: De'Janae Boykin had a huge game today on the boards with 19 rebounds. What went into that for her and why do you think she had so much success rebounding the ball today?CW: I think that she is really aggressive on the boards overall. She is a really good athlete and she has really good timing going after the boards. In some respects the ball fell her way, but in others she really was really aggressive. I think that with rebounding and making shots, when you are having success, it gives you that extra energy and adrenalin to keep going. She had a lot of big boards for us early, which allowed us to get out in transition and find Jaida Travascio-Green, Kamaria McDaniel, and Siyeh Frazier. When De'Janae is doing all of this it really molds well for our team.

Q: Amari Carter had a little bit of a struggle shooting the ball, while she was frustrated at times, she was finding her teammates and was making a lot of great passes having eight assists. What goes into that mindset for her? Even when she is not shooting to ball well she is still able to facilitate the offense and control the whole floor.
CW: I think that you hit it on the head. Amari's job is not just to score; her job is to run the team. She is learning how to understand and dictate the flow of the game. She did not take a lot of shots to begin with or didn't have a great shooting night, but she was still a great facilitator of the game by controlling the tempo and our offense. She is overall just a tremendous value to have on the floor.

Q: Obviously you have a very young team, so what is the importance of getting off to a 2-0 start and gaining that confidence and momentum.
CW: I think that it is very important because there is nothing like game experience or figuring out who you are on gameday. Sometimes you can be one team in practice and then be a totally other team when the lights come on and its game time. I think that starting to figure out who this team is and what we are going to get from our players on gameday is huge. Coming into this game it was tough for us. It was Drexel's first game and starting the second hal,f I feel that you could see a little bit of fatigue set in for us since we played Friday night, November 10th, and playing less than two days later means not a lot of recovery time. I like the heart that we showed throughout all of this and I think that we finished the game fairly strong. I think gameday we are just gong to continue to grow since we are so young. The experiences that our players had this weekend will hopefully carry out for the next two weeks when we are on the road. Hopefully this confidence can carry us through the next two weeks because we do not come back to play in the Bryce Jordan Center until after Thanksgiving.

Jaylen Williams | F | Jr.

Q: With a career-high 17 points, what were you doing with the height advantage and using your physicality in the paint?
JW: We changed up the offense a little bit. I was starting to post up a lot more, and my teammates were getting me the ball. They were throwing some great passes and I was just trying my best to make them.

Jaida Travascio-Green | G | So.

Q: You had 31 points today, what was clicking for you offensively?
JTG: I wasn't really thinking much. My teammates were getting me the ball on the kick out, and even after I missed a couple my teammates were still telling me to shoot it. So, I just shot the ball. It ended up being a good shooting day.
