MTN: Nittany Lions Strong at William & Mary Invite

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lions men's tennis team had a dominating second day going 5-1 at the William and Mary Invite held in Williamsburg, Va.

The combined team of Penn State and Middle Tennessee State faced off against the combined team of VCU and Richmond.

In singles, Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) took on VCU's Arvid Noren and lost a tough match 7-5, 6-2. Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) faced off against Brice Polender and defeated him 6-3, 6-1. Matt Galush (Cary, NC) battled VCU's Karl Katlaps and won 7-5, 6-3. Noah Sutter (New York, NY) also had a solid match against William and Mary's Michael Chen, winning 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles play, Lieb and Galush faced Richmond's James Aronson and Polender with the Lions coming out victorious 6-4. Sutter and Nemeth came out with a win in their doubles round defeating VCU's Katlaps and Louis Ishizaka 6-4.

"We had a good day going 5-1," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "We needed to step up today and show some energy and excitement. We set very specific ideas about how we want our doubles to look. We are looking for the guys to buy into it and it showed today in our doubles matches."
