UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 9 Penn State took care of Alderson-Broaddus 3-0 Saturday night in Rec Hall (South Gym) by way of an overall balanced attack that featured four Nittany Lions with five or more kills.
Aidan Albrecht and Calvin Mende led the way for the Nittany Lions against the Battlers, finishing the night with eight kills apiece and both hitting over .462.
Royce Clemens led the game in digs on the defensive effort for the Nittany Lions totaling six digs on the night.
Luke Braswell posted two digs to go along with his 30 assists.
Kevin Gear, the Mike Anderson Player of the Game, and Jalen Penrose contributed six and five kills, respectively, hitting .750 and .571.
Gear and Mende led Penn State in blocks individually with five and four apiece while the team registered 5.0 blocks on the night.
Alderson-Broaddus played Penn State tough over the course of the set before ultimately falling 25-20 to trail 1-0.
Set two was a one-sided game as Penn State reached 25 to clinch the set while the Battlers were only able to get to nine hitting -.091 and committing nine attack errors as well as five errors from the service line.
Penn State pieced together a 25-15 win in set three to clinch the set and match to improve to 2-0 on the season after opening weekend.
Penn State travels to Los Angeles, Calif. to take part in the PAC-12/Big Ten Challenge where the Nittany Lions will face UCLA and USC at Pauley Pavilion - the site of the 2018 NCAA Men's Volleyball Championships in May.
