Feb. 19, 2018

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's basketball sophomore Tony Carr earned his first Big Ten Player of the Week honor for his performances against No. 8 Ohio State and No. 6 Purdue, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

On the week, Carr averaged 24.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, while shooting 50.0-percent from 3-point range (6-12), and 45.9-percent from the field (17-37).

In the Nittany Lions' 70-56 win over No. 8 Ohio State, Carr led Penn State with 30 points, on 9-15 shooting, including hitting four 3-point field goals. He also added five rebounds and three assists to his stat line. This was Carr's fourth 30-point performance this season and was his 17th career game with 20 or more points.

In the narrow 76-73 loss to Purdue, the sophomore guard finished with a team-high 19 points, adding five rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal on the night.

Carr now leads the Big Ten in scoring as the Philadelphia, Pa., native, is averaging 19.6 points per game. He also ranks third in 3-point field goal percentage (46.5), fifth in assists per game (4.9), and eighth in free throw percentage (82.5). Carr now has 964 career points in just his sophomore season. If he reaches the 1,000-point mark this season, he would be the first sophomore to do so at Penn State.

This is the first career Big Ten weekly honor of Carr's career, and the first Player of the Week honor for Penn State since the 2015-16 season, when Brandon Taylor was honored on Feb. 22, 2016.

Tickets are available for the Nittany Lions' final home game on Wednesday, February 21, when Penn State will honor its seniors. For more information on purchasing tickets, visit gopsusports.com/tickets/m-baskbl-tickets.html.
