UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 9 Penn State outlasted Ball State 3-2 Friday night in Rec Hall (Main Gym).

The 22nd service error on the night for Ball State proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Cardinals as the Nittany Lions finished off the set 15-10 and took the match 3-2 to improve to 4-2 overall.Jalen Penrose, the Mike Anderson Player of the Game, led the way for the Nittany Lions against the Cardinals finishing the night with 16 kills six services aces, five digs and four blocks. Penrose at one point in the match helped Penn State rattle off six straight points in the fifth set to bring the Nittany Lions from trailing 5-4 to holding a 10-5

Royce Clemens and Luke Braswell tied for the team lead in digs on the defensive effort for the Nittany Lions totaling seven digs apiece on the night. Braswell also dished out 44 assists.

Kevin Gear led Penn State in blocks individually with six while the team registered 10.0 blocks on the night.

Starting in a 1-0 hole in the fifth set, Penn State battled back to knot the game at 5-5 on the way to extending the lead all the way to 10-5. Penn State capped the game on a 6-5 run to take the match 3-2 over Ball State who fell to 4-5 on the season.

Penn State welcomes undefeated Fort Wayne (8-0) into South Gym tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. ET
