UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 17th-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team looks to build off a Sunday victory over Albany as they welcome the Drexel Dragons to Happy Valley for a midweek affair on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
HOW TO WATCH
The contest is the first of three-consecutive home games over the next eight days that will air live on the Big Ten Network and streaming live on BTN2Go.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- This marks the eighth matchup in the all-time series with Penn State holding the 7-0 series lead. The two schools will meet for the sixth consecutive year dating back to the 2013 season. The teams also played one game each in 1994 and 1995.
- Penn State is averaging 14.00 goals per contest in the seven games against the Dragons and have hit double-digits in six of the seven meetings outscoring Drexel 98-37.
- Senior Katie O'Donnell leads all current players with five goals and two assists for seven points in three career games against Drexel while junior Madison Carter has added four goals and a pair of helpers for six points in her two games against the Dragons.
- Penn State has won each of the last four meetings between the two teams by an average of 9.5 goals.
SCOUTING DREXEL
- The Dragons finished 2017 just 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the CAA and are just 1-5 to begin the 2018 season. Dating back to last season, Drexel has just one win over its last nine games.
- Last season, Drexel had just five players with double-digit goals and the only retuning member of that group is Alex Beilman who scored 11.
- The Dragons are paced on offense by sophomore Lucy Schneidereith with 13 goals while freshmen classmates Colleen Grady and Karson Harris have each added 12. Grady has chipped in a team-best eight assists for 20 points to lead the Dragons.
- Freshman Zoe Bennett has started all six games between the pipes for Drexel and has a 14.81 goals against average and a .371 save percentage. Drexel graduated its starting net-minder from last season in Carlee Ries who started all 16 games for the Dragons with a 11.39 goals against average and a .411 save percentage.
- Drexel has lost four straight games by an average of 7.25 goals as they are being outscored 67-29 over the four-game losing skid.
STREAKING UP THE RECORD BOOKS
- Madison Carter has registered multiple goals in six of her seven games played this season including three games with at least five goals. Dating back to last season, Carter has a ten-game goal streak.
- Carter's 24 goals lead the team and rank second in the Big Ten and tied for 12th in the nation and after starting the season 17th on the Penn State all-time goals list the junior now sits 10th with her 143 career goals in just 49 games.
- Katie O'Donnell has scored multiple goals in every game so far this season and 15 straight dating back to 2017. Overall, the senior is riding a 29 game goal streak.
- O'Donnell's 21 goals this season are second on the team behind Carter and rank third in the Big Ten and tied for 30th nationally. The senior's 163 career goals place her fourth on the all-time Penn State goals list.
- Sophomore Maria Auth tied her career high last game with four goals and five points while her 18 goals this season already tie her entire goal total from 2017 and rank fifth in the Big Ten. Auth is also riding a 10-game goal streak dating back to last season's NCAA Tournament.
A HELPING HAND
- Penn State tallied a season-high ten assists as a team on Sunday against Albany including seven assist on the first ten goals of the game.
- With 37 assists this season Penn State ranks third in the Big Ten in total assists.
- Senior Shelby Wells leads the team and ranks second in the Big Ten with 10 assists on the season while sophomore Katie Schluederberg ranks third in the Big Ten with nine helpers to her credit.
ZERO TO 100
- Penn State has scored 106 goals this season through its first seven games and ranks tied for ninth in the nation and second in the Big Ten in goals scored.
- The Nittany Lions are also second in the Big Ten averaging 15.14 goals per contest to tie for 13th in the nation.
- Last season through the first seven games, Penn State had scored 103 goals averaging 14.71 per contest.
DEFENSIVE DAGGETT
- Just a few weeks into the 2018 season junior Kelly Daggett moved from attack to defense in order to help out a young defensive unit and she has thrived in her new role.
- Last Sunday against Albany, Daggett tied her career-high with four groundballs and four caused turnovers. The junior currently leads the team with 13 groundballs and 14 caused turnovers on the year.
- Daggett's 14 caused turnovers and 2.00 average per game both lead the Big Ten and rank tied 17th and tied for 27th in the nation, respectively.
- In 2017, Daggett finished tied for seventh on the team in goal scoring with 15 goals and only had four caused turnovers the entire season.
