PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Penn State men's lacrosse team took down No. 13 Penn, 10-7, in comeback fashion after Penn opened the game on a 4-0 run, but the Nittany Lions were able to rebound and score seven unanswered goals to close it out at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore faceoff specialist Gerard Arceri continued his dominance at the 'X,' as he went 18-20, for a season-high .900-winning percentage. He scooped up a game-best 13 ground balls and scored a goal as well.
Junior Nick Spillane and sophomore Mac O'Keefe both finished with three points as they both netted two goals and dished out one assist.
Sophomore Dylan Foulds, who made his first career start, had the first multi-goal game of his career as he found the back of the net twice.
Sophomore goalie Colby Kneese, now 3-1 on the season, recorded 10 saves and added one ground ball.
Senior short-stick defensive middie Tripp Traynor scored his first goal of the season, and juniors Kevin Hill and Chris Sabia tacked on scores as well.
QUARTER BREAKDOWN
1Q || Penn opened up hot, taking a 3-0 lead after the first. Gerard Arceri was consistent on the face, but the possessions just would not flow in favor of the Nittany Lions. || Penn 3-0
2Q || Penn would extend their lead to 4-0 with a goal at the 11:04 mark, but Penn State's offense ignited following. Nick Spillane recorded an unassisted goal at the 8:58 mark, and just 40-seconds later, Tanner Peck would find Mac O'Keefe for his first score of the game. Two minutes later, Penn State would get another one back as Dylan Foulds would put one in the back of the cage off a Spillane pass. Directly following a media timeout, Arceri won the faceoff and took the ball down the field for the score to knot the game at 4-all. Penn State would take their first lead of the game at the 5:21 mark, as Brian Townsend found a cutting O'Keefe for his second goal of the game. With 1:17 left, Foulds would score his second of the game, this time off a dime from O'Keefe. Arceri won all eight faceoffs in the quarter. || Penn State 6-4
3Q || Penn State came out of the gates hot in the second half as Arceri won the opening face and Kevin Hill scored the unassisted goal. Penn was able to end the seven-goal streak with their first of the half with 5:31 on the clock. Tripp Traynor would tack on his first goal of the season in the waning seconds of the period. || Penn State 8-5
4Q || Penn again was the first on the board, but a Chris Sabia fastbreak goal kept the Nittany Lions at a three-goal advantage. However, with 4:41 to play, Penn cut the game back to two, 9-7, heading into a media timeout. Penn State got a late goal from Spillane to seal the game. || Penn State 10-7
