WTN: Nittany Lions Shutout by No. 26 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J.-The Penn State women's tennis team fell 7-0 to the No. 26 Princeton Tigers. This match was the first of three included in the Nittany Lion's spring break trip.

The Nittany Lions lost the doubles point, after falling 2-0 in matches against the Tigers. Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) and Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) did not finish their match against Nicole Kalhorn and Stephanie Schrage, but were down 5-3 when play ended. Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) and Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) fell to Clare McKee and Katrine Steffensen, 6-2. Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweden) lost against Sara Goodwin and Nathalie Rodilosso, 6-2.

In singles, the team went 0-6. O'Gorman fell to Steffensen, 6-0, 6-0. Svarre took on No. 108 Schrage in a tough match, ultimately losing, 6-4. 6-2. Hanley was in a tightly contested match with Kalhorn, but fell, 7-6(5), 7-5. Smith was defeated by McKee, 6-4, 6-2. Dunn fell to Gaby Pollner, 6-2, 6-4. Wikberg won the lone set of the day in singles, forcing a third set tiebreak, however she lost to Tiffany Chen, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-5).

"Princeton is a top 30 team for a reason," said head coach Chris Cagle. "They played well today and we also did at certain times and lineup positions. We now move on to playing outdoors for the next few matches, which has been a focus in our overall training this season. I look forward to getting to Florida and training before we compete later this week."

The Nittany Lions are now 5-6 on the season, and 0-1 in the Big Ten. The team will continue its spring break trip in Florida, where they will take on Memphis on Thursday, Mar. 8 and UCF Saturday, Mar. 10, at the USTA National Campus.
