WGolf In Ninth Place Heading Into Championship Round

Columbus, Ohio- The Penn State women's golf team stands in ninth place shooting 606 (plus-30) in two rounds on day one of the Lady Buckeye Invitational today.

The team moved up two spots from their 11th place spot at the end of round one with a score of 306 (plus-18). Their 300 (plus-12) score in the second round put the Nittany Lions ahead of three of their Big Ten rivals: Minnesota, Maryland, and Rutgers.

Illinois leads the tournament in first place with a two-round score of 579 (plus-3). Pimnipa Panthong of Kent State and Grace Park of Illinois are tied for first on the leaderboard both shooting three-under 141.

Junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) leads once again for Penn State coming back from 35th place at the end of the first round to tie for 13th at the end of the second. Basso shot 76 (plus-4) and even to par in the two rounds. She also recorded five birded toward the team total.

Fellow junior, Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.), tallied three birdies for the team and finished the day tied for 27th with a two-round score of 151 (plus-7). Sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) recorded a two-round score of 163 (plus-19).

Three other Nittany Lions made the top 50 all tied for 46th. Juniors Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Ohio) and sophomore Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) all shot 155 (plus-11) for the two rounds. Taylor recorded four birdies for the day.

"When playing the Scarlet Course errors can be costly. We lost a few shots during the first 18, but we came back and had it going being able to move up by five places one point," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "I am super proud of Cara Basso for being able to come back and finish even to par in the second round."
