STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The 17th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions look for their first win over a national No. 1 team since 2005 when they travel to Stony Brook on Tuesday afternoon.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
- This marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools in program history.
LOOKING TO SHOCK THE WORLD
- The Nittany Lions will look for their first win over a top-ranked opponent since March 19, 2005. The 2005 season was special as Penn State beat two No. 1 teams that year: Virginia (March 11) and Princeton (March 19), before falling to its third No. 1 foe, Northwestern (April 15). PSU rose as high as No. 2 in the nation that season.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
- Stony Brook enters the contest ranked No. 1 in both major polls and is 15-0 on the season and 6-0 in the America East.
- Since 2012, the Seawolves have only lost 20 games and have won at least 14 games in each season.
- Senior Kylie Ohlmiller recently broke the NCAA Division I career record for both total points and assists last Saturday as she now has 452 career points and 226 career assists to lead all active players while her 226 goals rank third in the nation among active players.
- Ohlmiller currently leads the nation in points with 111 while her 62 goals are good for eighth and her 49 assists rank second.
- Outside of Ohlmiller, Courtney Murphy leads the team with 66 goals to rank tied for fourth in the nation while adding 23 assists for 89 points good for sixth in the nation. Taryn Ohlmiller is third on the team with 40 goals and 76 points while Ally Kennedy has added 32 goals and 45 points.
- Stony Brook leads the nation in scoring defense allowing just 6.13 goals per game while they rank second in the nation scoring 17.60 goals per game.
- Anna Tesoriero has started all 15 games this season for the Seawolves and lead the entire nation with a 6.48 goals against average while her .512 save percentage is good for seventh.
THE K.O. SHOW
- Senior Katie O'Donnell has scored at least one goal in 38 straight contests dating back to her sophomore season including a stretch of seven-straight games with at least three goals.
- O'Donnell has registered multiple goals in 21 of her last 22 games dating back to last season and currently leads the team with 51 goals to rank second in the Big Ten and tied for 14th nationally.
- O'Donnell has moved all the way up into a tie for sixth on the Penn State all-time scoring list with 216 points in 78 games.
- O'Donnell's 193 career goals are also good for fifth among active players across the nation and she is just seven goals shy of becoming only the fourth player in program history to reach 200 career goals. The senior is also just 14 goals shy of her career-high of 65 set last season.
SNAP, CRACKLE, POP
- During their 13-8 setback against Maryland last week, the Nittany Lions saw four players lose their point/goal streaks.
- Both Madison Carter and Maria Auth were held off the scoresheet for the first time all season snapping 17-game goal streaks they each had.
- Carter's 44 goals are good for fourth in the conference while Auth's 43 rank fifth.
- Freshman Rachel Rosen had her streak of three-straight games with multiple points snapped as she too was held off the scoresheet while classmate Quinn Nicolai saw her eight-game goal streak come to an end.
NEXT UP
- Penn State hosts Michigan on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day to close out the regular season at 2 p.m. and the game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
