CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior Katie O'Donnell registered a career-high eight points becoming just the 14th player in program history to reach the 200-point mark as No. 19 Penn State defeated No. 6 Virginia, 22-13, in non-conference action this evening from Klöckner Stadium.

O'Donnell tied her career-high with six goals while setting a new career-best with her eight points. Freshman Quinn Nicolai (Moorestown, N.J.) added a career-high four goals and six points of her own while sophomore Maria Auth (Street, Md.) scored three goals while adding an assist for four points.

Penn State (9-4) saw eight players register multi-point efforts as freshman Sophia Triandafils (Wading River, N.Y.) tied her career-high with four points on a pair of goals and a career-best two assists. Senior classmates Shelby Wells (Timonium, Md.) and Maggie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.) each added a pair of goals to round out the multi-goal scorers for the visitors.

The Cavaliers (8-5) jumped out to the early 2-0 just 1:06 into the contest, but the Nittany Lions followed with a 4-0 spurt to grab the two-goal lead at the 22:07 mark. Wells registered a pair of goals during the run.

The teams then traded goals as freshman Sophia Triandafils (Wading River, N.Y.) sandwiched a goal between a pair of scores by Virginia for the 5-3 lead at the 19:02 mark. The Nittany Lions then used a 6-0 run to jump out to the 11-3 advantage at the 6:34 mark of the opening half. O'Donnell scored twice while freshman Rachel Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) collected one goal and one assist and Nicolai, Auth and sophomore Kristin Roberto (Miller Place, N.Y.) added the other scores during that stretch.

The teams again traded goals heading into the intermission with Gallagher firing in the final score of the half with her first of the game at the 2:55 mark for the 13-6 margin.

Auth sandwiched her second goal of the game between a pair by the Cavaliers to open the second half before Penn State used a 3-0 bulge to 17-8 advantage at the 21:00 mark after back-to-back tallies from Nicolai.

The Nittany Lions then hit running time as Triandafils was able to find junior Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) for her first of the game and the 19-9 advantage at the 17:04 mark.

The teams then traded a pair of two-goal spurts and a pair of single goals to close out the game with the 22-13 final.

Freshman Lucy Lowe (Cockeysville, Md.) improves to 7-4 on the year after stopping six shots.

Penn State has over a week off before returning to Big Ten action as they host Northwestern in a 6 p.m. affair next Saturday at Panzer Stadium.
