Two Gymnasts Garner First Team All-Big Ten Honors

April 9, 2018

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Freshman Brennan Pantazis (Sparks, Nev.) and sophomore Stephen Nedoroscik (Worcester, Mass.) garnered First Team All-Big Ten honors, while junior Greg Tamargo (Kennett Square, Pa.) was named to the second team.

Junior Wyatt Tyndall (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) garnered the Sportsmanship Award for the Nittany Lions, competing on four events this winter and earning three individual titles.

Pantazis and Nedoroscik become the 13th and 14th Big Ten Individual Event Champions in Penn State men's gymnastics history at the 2018 Big Ten Championships and are the first since Trevor Howard earned the high bar title in the 2016 campaign. Furthermore the duo are the first pair of Penn State gymnasts to earn a title in the same year since 2015 when Howard and Matthew Felleman each took home individual titles.

Pantazis is just the second Penn State gymnast to capture the Big Ten floor exercise title and the first since Mike Dutka earned the honor in the 1998 season. The freshman scored a 14.275 to lead the field in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Sparks, Nevada native notched one regular season floor victory at the West Point Open and earned two parallel bar titles.

Nedoroscik is the third Nittany Lion to notch the pommel horse title for Penn State as Craig Hernandez captured the title in both 2012 and 2013. Nedoroscik also joins the company of Dutka, who won three titles in the 1998 season, including the pommel horse victory. Nedoroscik scored a 14.475 in his win at the Crisler Center, finishing .225 ahead of Ohio State's Alec Yoder. The pommel horse specialist notched five regular season victories in his sophomore campaign and has won the title in his last four outings.

Tamargo also earned a podium finish for the Blue and White at the Big Ten Championships, scoring a 13.875 on the still rings to place third overall. The Kennett Square, Pennsylvania native captured both a still rings and a parallel bars title during the regular season.

The Nittany Lions will take a week off of competition in preparation for the 2018 NCAA Championships, hosted in Chicago, Illinois April 20-April 21. The team will compete in the qualifier Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. and finish the team finals as well as the individual event finals Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m.
